AXIS and Vessel connected over a shared goal to elevate the cannabis retail industry.
Vessel, a premium provider of vape pens, power accessories, cases, and more, desires to give its customers the “Ultimate Experience.” Flawless design, impeccable character, superior performance, and ergonomic comfort mark each Vessel product, inspiring cannabis aficionados everywhere to discover the vape kit best fit for their lifestyle.
As creative dreamers, the Vessel team builds products that inspire optimism and happiness. They believe personal, more enjoyable cannabis consumption experiences are possible, and that sophistication should never, ever, be sacrificed.
Understanding how noisy the cannabis retail industry can be, Vessel set out on a mission to educate and evolve with its customers by bringing clarity, cohesion, and creative expression to the vape pen purchasing process. This foundation has allowed the company to rapidly expand its product line and significantly increase its consumer reach since 2018.
By the time AXIS entered the scene, Vessel was ready to develop a retail program that would not be overshadowed by the confines of brick and mortar. Vessel had big dreams and needed a retail partner ready to execute above and beyond their wildest imagination.

This project began as a conversation about a three pen countertop display - simple, efficient, cost-effective. Vessel had never before developed any formalized retail program and disclosed that what they were currently using as a display wasn’t cutting it for their growing network of cannabis dispensaries and retailers.
The AXIS team developed five diverse concepts to meet this initial ask: a rotating countertop display, a kickstand countertop display, an angled slab countertop display, a 3-sided spinner display, and a wedge display A variety of materials were suggested ranging from wood, PVC, acrylic, metal, vacuum-formed plastic, brushed brass, and more.

Upon further discussion between AXIS and Vessel, it was decided that instead of a simple three pen countertop display, more customer engagement, brand presence, and ROI could be achieved if the display was treated as an “Ultimate Experience” messaging piece - something featuring 3+ vape pens, plus associated kit elements such as the case, charging accessories, educational graphics, and more. It was important to Vessel that their customers could easily see how the pen worked with the charger, case, and tips. Of the above designs, the one that most captured Vessel’s eye was the Slab family. This became the launch point for all additional design work.

Create a multi-faceted, small footprint “Ultimate Experience” display that:
Showcases three or more vape pens simultaneously
Includes an option for display with and without accessories
Is viewable from multiple angles
Includes a removable, clear acrylic cover to keep product safe and secure without impeding visibility
Provides an option to easily incorporate or swap out new Vessel products as they become available
Durable
Additionally, the Vessel team required a design aesthetic that was space age and innovative, something that conveyed the intentionality behind the product design and positioned the product’s seamless integration features as a premier option for serious customers.

As a premium vape provider, it was important for Vessel to stand out and catch the attention of customers 21+ who are more concerned with style and functionality over cost, understand the allure of being “unique,” and believe that image and status are things to be celebrated and shared.

►Production Process

Building off of the Slab Grey Minimal concept shown above, AXIS created a small footprint countertop display that was brand forward, durable, and multi-functional. Products are easily swapped out to showcase new designs, features, and accompanying accessories. The angular component assists in capturing customer attention in an often crowded POS area. Powder-coated metal, screen-printed clear acrylic, and beautiful digitally-printed graphics represent Vessel’s overall aesthetic, while further suggesting the premium experience this brand’s products deliver. *All graphics are easily updated to accommodate new messaging and campaigns as needed.
